Camera question, photography question?

so, im currently in my last year of college taking my photography A level,
i am just finishing my first unit of work and am due to start my exam unit within a couple of weeks.
my first unit was done using entirely digital camera, i printed a couple of images in the darkroom but it was a digital negative.
i would like to show i can take photographs using a range of cameras, so im looking into buying an underwater camera, and a film camera.

can anyone recommend a good film camera, one which the film is still made, if not what kind of things should i look for in a film camera?
also, i have found a few underwater digital cameras on amazon, which the reviews are pretty good for, so if anyone has any recommendations thanks a lot, but if not dont worry as im not completly stuck on this one!

also, i don’t have a great job – only part time, so as cheap as possible!
thanks!
Lisa
thanks for your help…and criticism…
but i was only asking for advice, i thought this is what YA was for, of course i have heard of 35mm i was simply asking for recommendations and any requirements i should look for.
i didn’t need all the stuff about how ‘i should know this already’….
thanks anyway, ill keep that in mind

I would think you would have learned all this by now, as it’s basic stuff you are asking about (as well as being older than the typical clueless junior high kid – you should realize by now that a little elbow grease and leg work go a long way). At the very least I would think you could ask your teacher these sorts of questions (after all isn’t that what they are there for?).

Are you using/looking for a compact camera (point and shoot – p&s) or an SLR?
As far as I know Pentax is the only major brand that is still selling new p&s film cameras. Nikon still sells a cheap (relatively speaking) film SLR, as does Voigtlander, Vivitar and Cosina. I don’t know about the quality, though.

What camera brand do you currently have?
If you have a digital SLR camera, you might be able to use the same lens on the film camera. This will depend.

If you are on a budget then you may have to buy a used camera. A local camera shop might sell them. You can also try KEH.com. As a last resort, you can try a thrift store or ebay, but it’s a gamble sometimes (as they may or may not work). Any reputable brand will work (minolta, olympus, canon, nikon, pentax, etc). Just pick one you like, and don’t forget the lens.

Is it really necessary to "show you can take a photo"? Wouldn’t pictures from your digital camera suffice? There really is no difference, as the fundamentals are the same regardless of whether you use digital or film: exposure, composition, mood, etc. – film or digital doesn’t matter.

the most common type of film is 35mm film, which you can find anywhere (again, I’m surprised you don’t know this already). You can also find medium format film at camera shops, no problem.
